The Government of Georgia will host the 5th OGP Global Summit in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 17-19, 2018. The Summit will provide an excellent opportunity for leaders from OGP’s 76 participating countries, local governments, and beyond to exchange ideas on how they are making their governments more transparent, accountable, and responsive to citizens.

Stanley Achonu is the Civil Society Adviser at Nigeria Open Government Partnership (OGP) Secretariat - a multi-stakeholder entity currently based in the Federal Ministry of Justice - tasked with ensuring CSO participation and co-creation in implementation of Nigeria’s OGP National Action Plan (NAP). Achonu successfully coordinated campaign for Nigeria to join OGP by forming Open Alliance Nigeria, a coalition of CSOs now working on OGP.

Achonu coordinates over 200 CSOs, ensuring a smooth working relationship with the government in implementing commitments in the NAP. He also works on the World Bank SFTAS program to implement the Open Budget process in 36 states in Nigeria using OGP to ensure public participation.

Until 2017, he was Operations Lead at BudgIT, a CSO which simplifies public finance data using technology and infographics; advocating institutional reform and access to government through civic engagement. He led in the implementation of several donor-funded projects spanning Justice and security, budget transparency and tracking, open budget for Nigeria’s National Assembly, data journalism training in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and other West African Countries.

He has a Masters degree in Business Intelligence Systems and Data Mining from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK; and is passionate about open data and advocates its use to drive transparency and accountability.
