Stanley Achonu is ONE’s Nigeria director. He has ten years of experience managing development programs and policy reform in civil society and government. Stanley served as the Civil Society Adviser and Deputy National Coordinator at the Nigeria Open Government Partnership (OGP) Secretariat, where he coordinated Nigeria’s membership of the OGP and the implementation of Nigeria's reform commitments. Stanley also served as a Senior Expert to the World Bank on Civil Society and Open Government. He advised the Bank on the fiscal transparency component of the Federal Government of Nigeria/World Bank States Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability Program. He also managed the design and development of Nigeria’s Open Register of Beneficial Owners of Companies. From 2014 to 2017, Stanley served as the Operations Lead at BudgIT Foundation, overseeing the design and implementation of several donor-funded projects and campaigns covering Transparency and Accountability, Justice and Security, an Open Budget campaign for Nigeria’s National Assembly, and Extractives Transparency. He led Media and Data journalism fellowships in Nigeria and Sierra Leone. He led the founding of Open Alliance Nigeria to campaign for Nigeria’s membership of the OGP. He is a 2018 alumnus of the US Department of State’s International Visitors Leadership Program, a professional exchange program where he focused on “Transparency and Ethics in Government.” Stanley holds a master’s in Business Intelligence Systems and Data Mining from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK.
