Managing Political Transitions: Continuing Reforms through Leadership Changes and in Challenging Times

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In light of the global wave of political transitions that represent a challenge to openness (from Brexit to the election of Trump and more), this fishbowl session will compare the experiences of civil society groups and reformers inside government in different countries trying to maintain OGP as a priority after political transitions/new government administrations come to power (including some who are hostile to the values of open government). Key discussants will present brief case studies from their countries (the UK, US, Liberia, and more), then the moderator will engage all participants in a global conversation about different strategies and tactics they use to keep open government a priority with new administrations.

Keeping the commitment to OGP after a tense political transition is a challenge for most emerging democracies. Liberia has just succeeded in urshering in a new government and I want to talk about strategies in getting the new government to remain committed to OGP.
