The Government of Georgia will host the 5th OGP Global Summit in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 17-19, 2018. The Summit will provide an excellent opportunity for leaders from OGP’s 76 participating countries, local governments, and beyond to exchange ideas on how they are making their governments more transparent, accountable, and responsive to citizens.

Asset Recovery – How Can Civil Society Effectively Engage?

As awareness of corruption and kleptocracy have increased with the disclosures from the Panama Papers and other investigations, more countries are engaging in cross bordering cooperation on asset recovery cases Civil society organizations can play a determining role in the asset recovery process. This panel will explore what roles civil society can play in the various stages of the asset recovery process to include the pre-investigative phase, the investigative phase, the judicial phase, and the asset return phase. Discussants will also provide insights on how to develop research efforts and awareness campaigns to educate citizens on asset recovery as well as advocacy on strengthening systems to prevent future asset losses.
