The Panama and Paradise papers highlighted how massive amounts of data can be analysed by investigative reporters and used to expose tax fraud and tax evasion from major fortunes, including high-ranking public officials. Based on the experiences of the Commission of Probity and Administrative transparency in Chile and of the Network for integrity members, the session aims to discuss open data and public integrity. Some of the panellists will represent institutions that publish data collected to monitor, control and/or promote integrity in public life. Contributors will also include civil society organizations that have developed innovative projects reusing such data. Panellists will discuss concrete experiments, focusing on how civil society has managed to reuse such information, good practices and lessons learnt, share visions of the national open government efforts, assess their impact and recall further commitments to opening and reusing data to monitor public integrity.
